Supporting Young Fathers
1 July 2009 (London)
11 November 2009 (London)
21 April 2010 (Manchester)
Young fathers are increasingly in the spotlight, but services for young parents still tend to focus on the mothers. The value of fathers to children's wellbeing is increasingly documented, as are the risks associated with absent fathers. Around 40% of young fathers have little or no contact with their children after one year. Provision to support young fathers is slowly developing and this course considers examples of promising practice to help participants to develop their own work.
The course covers
- The benefits of father involvement for children
- What young fathers say about services
- Key messages from reviews of promising practice with young fathers
- Focusing on specific support needs
- Different approaches to the work
- The worker gender debate
Fees:
Statutory, independent and large voluntary organisations: £155. Individuals and small voluntary organisations: £125. Young People in Focus standard cancellation charges apply.
