Young People and Mental Health -
Supporting the Parents
23 March 2010 (Birmingham)
20 July 2010 (London)
This course is aimed at practitioners who work with the parents of young people with mental health difficulties. These parents often have to deal with very distressing issues and will have specific support needs. The course will examine your role when working with these parents and consider how to respond effectively to their needs. It aims to increase the confidence of practitioners working in this area and help them to develop effective support strategies.
The course is built around research which asked parents about their experiences and needs. We draw on the voices of these parents throughout the course, and consider the recommendations for practice that have emerged from the research.
All participants receive a copy of the research report.
The course covers:
- Understanding mental health issues in young people
- The parents' perspective - what parents say they need
- Recommendations for practice
- Helping parents to help their young person
- Information sources and signposting
- Your role with parents
Fees:
Statutory, independent and large voluntary organisations: £155
Individuals and small voluntary organisations: £125
Young People in Focus standard cancellation charges apply.
