Helping Young People Cope with Depression

28 January 2010 (Brighton)
20 May 2010 (Manchester)

Mental health issues are of increasing concern amongst young people and the incidence of depression and anxiety disorders is rising. This one-day course aims to help practitioners in understanding the key issues around anxiety and depression and how young people may behave or describe their feelings. It will look at adolescent development and consider what the vulnerabilities and stress factors are that increase the risk of developing depression and anxiety disorders. It will also cover how workers can play an important role in recognising signs and signals of depression and consider some approaches and interventions that help.

The course covers:

  • Key issues relating to anxiety, depression and young people
  • Recognising the possible signs of anxiety and depression in young people
  • The impact of anxiety and depression on young people
  • Risk and protective factors
  • Practical strategies for helping those with or affected by anxiety and/or depression.

Fees:
Statutory, independent and large voluntary organisations: £155
Individuals and small voluntary organisations: £125
Young People in Focus standard cancellation charges apply.
