Introducing Counselling Skills

Using counselling skills effectively with young people can be a vital part of building a supportive relationship. It enables young people to feel listened to and understood, and can support them in finding solutions to their problems. This course will introduce participants to some basic counselling skills to use in their work, and help participants to respond appropriately to young people who are experiencing difficulties. The course is skills-based and participatory. It is appropriate for anyone who works with young people and wants to develop their listening and communication skills.
The course covers:
- The role of counselling skills with young people
- Learning to listen effectively
- Listening and responding to difficult feelings
- Asking helpful questions
- Counselling skills practice sessions
- Using counselling skills
Fees:
Statutory, independent and large voluntary organisations: £155
Individuals and small voluntary organisations: £125
Young People in Focus standard cancellation charges apply.
